Y2K24 Guns Among Roses is a collection that puts a spot light on one of the most controversial issues here in America. Gun violence against the African American community, and gun violence against children in schools. I was inspired to utilize this collection as a means to shed a spot light on this very heart wrenching issue here in our country. Hundreds of innocent lives have been lost to gun violence against minors and minorities; changing the lives of families and communities all across the nation. Within this collection you will see bullet casings added to the child and male garment strung up on red satin strings. I wanted to visually create something that showcases the bloodshed caused by gun violence against so many innocent children and African American fathers, uncles, and young men who never stood a chance against racism and the lack of gun control in the US. I truly hope that this collection inspires many to stand up for what is right and continue to let their voices be heard so that children and black men in America have a chance to live a full life. The presentation of the female garments which are revealing showcase how vulnerable women are when they say goodbye to their children or their significant other and they never return home due to a tragedy linked to gun violence. This naked vulnerability that women are dressed in every day sending their children to school or their significant other into a world of violence and prejudice is vividly seen in the female garments. This collection is dedicated to those who have lost a loved one or a child to hun violence. These roses are for those who have lost their loved ones prematurely because of the color or their skin or the lack of gun control in this country. Let’s continue to urge America for a change so that we no longer have to live with guns among roses.
